Summary: Just Like Going Out for Chinese4
Comment: The reason you can't get your Chinese food to taste the like the restaurant down the street has nothing to do with the ingredients, it has nothing to do with the recipe, it has nothing to do with you (at least this time.

It's the heat.

When you cook Chinese at home, quite simply you don't have the heat.

This thing gives you the heat. Plenty of it.

Don't leave an empty pan on it for too long, you'll burn a whole through it.

The Downside:
1. Doesn't work well in the wind
2. You have buy a $25 dollar propane tank (if you don't have one with your barbeque)
3. You need to buy a steel wok (Don't use nonstick, this thing will burn the teflon coating it right off).
4. It goes through the propane kinda quickly (not real quick though).

The Upside
1. With a little practice your food will be as good (or better) then your favorite Chinese place.
2. It's fun.
3. It's social.
4. It's easy to put together (about 5 minutes)
5. It's easy to operate.
6. Cooking has never been so fast. "The actual cooking" from start to finish takes about 3 minutes.


TIP: Chinese food is 98% preparation and 2% cooking. You must have everything cut and measured and ready to go.

Summary: A Perfect Outdoor Wok Burner!
Comment: I've used my Baby Kahuna for the past 6 months or so. It works great with my 16" hand hammered wok from The Wok Shop.

Assembly is simple, and it is very stable - whether in the low or high positions. I normally use it with the legs extended, and have ZERO complaints (unusual for me, by the way!). It is solid, reasonably priced, and does what it's designed to do.

I did add a wok ring (from The Wok Shop) to help "focus" the heat on my woks in windy weather. This was easy to put in place - just remove one or two of the wok supports, install the wok ring, reinstall the supports.

Heat control is pretty simple. You use the supplied valve to adjust the flame from low to blazing hot, depending on what you need at that part of the recipe.

Summary: Very good outdoor burner for wok cooking
Comment: The Baby Kahuna burner is a great option for those seeking to cook with a wok outdoors over high heat. It's easy to use and very portable. There are a few concerns, but overall they are minor.

There are only a few parts to put together; the burner unit and base, three support bars; the gas hose, and the three legs for the stand. They can be assembled in about 15 minutes or less and all the required tools are included. The burner also disassemble just as easily for your next tailgate party or cookover somewhere else.

After putting it together and hooking it up to a propane tank, you turn on the tank and ignite the flame. If hooked up correctly, you should see a mostly blue flame. The flame intensity is controlled by a small turn valve on the hose. If you open this all the way up, it will be incredibly hot! Now you're ready to cook!

Pros: Easy to setup, portable, high heat capable, great for fast wok cooking.

Cons: The stand only extends up to 26" high which means you have to bend over most of the time to cook, a minor inconvenience, but another reviewer mentioned this as well. I would suggest cooking with a chair.

The gas flow valve requires a very ligh touch. Trying to go from a high flame to a low one can easily result in a flame out.

The only other thing I would be wary of is how hot the burner gets. After cooking for about 10 minutes on medium high heat, the end of the burner that connects to the hose was hot. Well the hose is made of rubber so I would be concerned about cooking for a long duration like using it as a turkey fryer. However, many of these units have been sold so I'm sure its safe.

Overall, these are minor complaints. If the flow valve was easier to control, I would have given it 5 stars.

Additionally, I purchased this via Amazon's partner Fogdog, it was $10 cheaper than the Amazon direct price, but you pay $15 for shipping. Buying directly from Amazon was not available at the time. I had no problems with the transaction with Fogdog.
